Yesterday I printed up some flyers for the show in June (not one I'm playing, but an MC "sponsored" thing) and went over to Burke's to give them to Kole to distribute, and also that William H. Gass book I picked up for them at the library book sale (and a bonus Maria Dermoƻt book I'd gotten an extra copy of). Talked to them a bit and that was neat-o. While there I picked up Open Door by Luisa Valenzuela. And I almost missed seeing this book because, ironically, I wasn't closely looking at the display shelves as I was looking for used and not new books. But then I did catch it and then came the surprise of why this book by a pretty obscure writer is on the display shelf. I happened to have read one of her books last year (it was really good) and it's one I picked up a ways back just because it was published by Dalkey Archive. This one isn't even on Dalkey and I think it was only ever printed the one time in the 80s. My current best guess as to why it was on display is just 'cuz it has a cool-looking vintage cover. Though maybe someone who works there is a fan? Anyway, in the evening as it was getting near twilight, Mary Beth and I took a walk and it actually felt pretty nice out (versus the oppressive heat of earlier in the day). At night I re-recorded my set from Wednesday night (with the recorder set up correctly so it has stereo and all!). Hopefully it sounds alright. I went and put both versions up on bandcamp as "Requiem 0" and "Requiem" and here they are:
