Finally got the Memphis Forward site to where it's doing something. "Site" is a bit grandiose for what it is, it's more of a splash page. The layout's been done (the html, css, and some basic javascript). But the one THING it does is it has a form to subscribe to a mailing list. So getting that functionality took a bit of time. We're using mailchimp so to use the api I had to get some something set up on the server side. I thought I'd delve into and learn node.js as that's one of the hip things folks are using now so it'd be good to know (and I'll probably do some angularjs stuff as well once the site actually gets expanded, that's what I'm thinking about, anyway). Well so learning all the shit and getting it working took some time, but I did! Mostly it was googling shit and then copy-pasta shit I don't understand and then googling some more to figure out what's wrong and then getting pieces working and in the end understanding more of the shit I didn't understand. Software development! The site's not up yet. I gotta figure out if I'll be able to get my node deployed on the actual live server. Hopefully I'll be able to ssh into something 'cuz I think that's what I'll need to do. It doesn't run on the apache server like the php app did. We shall see. Anyway, I was able to successfully subscribe through the api on my local machine so that's a success! Yeah, it's really basic shit, but it's a lot of shit that's new to me so it feels like an accomplishment.
