i'll start with a minor thing from work yesterday, which more importantly lends a question to you all...at a team meeting this dude was reading Breakfast of Champions so afterwards i told him that it's a good book or whatever...he said something about liking Vonnegut but then he said something like sometimes he can be difficult to follow...i just nodded my head because i figured it would be rude to say "are you kidding!? he's like one of THE easiest to follow writers ever!" does anyone else consider Vonnegut difficult to follow at times or anything like that? do most consider him about as straightforward as it gets? (well, maybe not plot-wise...i guess i mean his writing being very "straight shootin'"...) as wacky as his stuff can get, the writing's so direct that i wouldn't think of it as being hard to follow...maybe i haven't read enough, but what little i've read seems extremely consistent, stylistically speaking...just wondering if others might be baffled by that statement or if i'm wrong for being baffled...
anyway, our show last night: The Pocket Protectors played first...David performed via prerecorded tape...a bit into it, when i tried to plug in the bass i couldn't get any sound happening from my junk, which i guess was a drag...that just led me to play on the drums for a while...we didn't play long...i dunno, amid the technical problems, i was a little disappointed...but whatever...
and then there was The Family Ghost...admittedly not our best show (i think actually having the whole band practice since our last show would have been beneficial against that, but what can ya do?) my amp being out of commission and having to play on two different amps depending on the song, plus there was something funny with maybe one of my pedals being turned down or maybe a dying battery somewhere that i wouln't get sound unless my delay pedal was on (after i figured this out i just left it mixed clean, also i believe this to be the culprit for the aforementioned Pocket Protectors problem...) it's lame just bringing out a bunch of excuses, but that's something...our playing wasn't as tight as could be desired (i've already given my excuse for that...which isn't really MY excuse, but enough of that...) of course hardly anyone was there...and our reason for setting the show up in the first place (Michael Donnohue, writer for the Commercial Appeal asking us if we were playing any shows in may) didn't happen...so whatever...regardless, our set list was:
untitled
Like Clockwork
Army of Skeletons
Phantom Limb
Doctorate
at least it was over with early as far as shows go...i can't speak for others, but we were loaded back and done well before my bedtime...(and while i did get to bed pretty much on time, it didn't help me fall asleep on time anyway...)
i'm not working tomorrow...(yay!) but i am going to court instead...(boo...)
