a night of much rock - and - roll
Jan. 14th, 2001 03:47 pmwent and got David then we went to Jenna's...she wasn't ready yet so we went and ate at the Audobon Cafe...then back to her house and off to the show...we were there pretty early so we got to sit around a while (not a bad thing)...then The Lost Sounds (a local group) played...they're not bad...some of their stuff is really really good and some of it is a bit medicore...but all in all they're good...i realized that in the middle part of their trilogy thing, the vocals are ripped off of "Three Girl Rhumba"...not the lyrics, directly...but he sings it the exact same way, and then the lyrics are about adding stuff, and then like he says "the answer is nothing"/no one/something like that...then after a while Bride of No No played...they were having rather big problems w/ the sound mixing and stuff, but in spite of all of that i liked it...before the show started i got their cd (B.O.N.N. Apétit!) as well as Azita's solo album (Music for Scattered-Brains)...the massive crowd at the show, however, did not share my opinion of the band...many were being a bit hard on the band, especially considering the technical difficulties they were having...but a few songs were just really really great...problems or not...then more pause...Kristen, a girl i know from back in the day or something, acknowledged me in public for the first time in a while...she was making Nipples references (that's AteOlf Hitler's Nipples, oldskool band of mine that my s/n obviously comes from...) (she's one of the very very few who own a copy of the Nipples' album (Love Songs for Convicted Sex Offenders)) then Man...or Astro-Man? happened...this was one of the better shows of theirs that i've seen...i was right up on the stage for the whole show...as they were flailing about i kept fearing i was gonna get wacked in the face w/ a guitar, but luckily that didn't happen...at one point Coco set his theramin on fire and played it...and at the end when they brought out the gigantic tesla coil (on the Young Avenue Deli's very small stage) it kept zapping the house p.a. speakers, i'm pretty sure it fried 'em...i believe the band was feeling a little "doh!" at that moment...quite funny...a very rockin' evening to be sure...extremely enjoyable...after the show i got a Servotron cd (Spare Parts) as they were selling them for $3...we left at about 3 am...so i went home and slept for a small number of hours and then went to work...so now, after work, here i am...Justin wants me to come over but i'm feeling too tired to drive...oh...Justin showed up at the show too, but he was w/ a friend who made him leave after a half hour at the very most...he was only there for part of The Lost Sounds' set...that's all...just sittin' around waiting for The Simpsons now...woo...hoo...
