rock, rock, rock, record...
Sep. 26th, 2004 12:56 pmso the first successfull The Family Ghost practice in a good while happened yesterday...we started early for a saturday and Jacques went out to Arlington to pick Brad up...we spent the whole time working on recording "Like Clockwork"...that 50 foot xlr snake cable i ordered over two weeks ago i still on fucking backorder...so we still have to work with the mixing board in the same room we're playing in...so really to be able to mix anything at all we have to record a bit first, then listen back to it and then guess and some adjustments and try again...so we did that for about 2 and a half hours, almost exactly our whole practice...then we got it ready just in time before Josh had to be off to work to record the whole song...and it turned out pretty well...the drums sound frickin' sweet...at first we were doing the vocals in the little pseudo-hallway that's off to the side leading to the "front door" that's never used...but it wasn't working out so well and Josh suggested the front room that used to be the study...it has some nice reverb 'cuz it's brick and that worked pretty well...plus i could be in there singing and rocking and stuff and it has glass doors so i could just stand still and be able to see the rest of the band...we might try to work on the same song again, but it's definitely passable for now...we did a lot in getting everything set up anyway...and i'll mention again we're kind of doing like what we did last year with the live straight to cassette recording...unfortunately we're rocking in a room that's not nearly the acoustical dream that was the room in my parents' house...so the original idea of having the mics more just out in the room had to be scrapped for a microphone pretty much solely for each instrument/amp...but for the situation of the room it works out pretty well...then we finished, Josh went to work, i got Rambo for the NES in the mail...see, i had the game but then while Brad and my NES collections were merged together we found only one copy of Rambo (i was sure it had to be mine 'cuz my games hadn't been moved around so much as Brad, they went straight from my parents' house to this apartment and all my other games were there...but when Brad moved the game went with him...) then i opened my mail with Brad right there and he said something like "oh, i thought we had agreed i was gonna let you have the copy of Rambo" but after he had moved out and took the game with him i didn't think that'd happen...oh well...i got it for only a penny (shipping was just under $5, but still that's not too bad...) anyway then i accompanied Jacques and Amber in the venture of taking Brad back home...we ate at the Sub Shop on the way...i got to see Jibbles for a minute...that was pretty swell...then back home...Jacques and Amber went off to do some family stuff...then Amanda and Jason came over...Amanda smashed her foot open on a Josh's guitar case left in my hallway...the buckle was sticking out and it cut her foot pretty deep...but it didn't kill her or nothin'...we watched that Wire dvd...then went to Blockbuster...they picked out Near Dark...it's a vampire movie...the box said it's "poetic" so of course it was wretched...oh well, i guess that's all i've got to say...uh...
