as all the cool people know, The Family Ghost played our 7th show in 3 years at the Hi-Tone this wednesday...it was probably our best show to date...i was a bit disappointed by the turnout, but we played really well...the only real bit of screwing up was the intro to "Phantom Limb"...Jacques and i weren't quite together, but other than that it was swell...Brad P. jackass from Snowglobe didn't even show up 'til right before the show started (noteworhy 'cuz he was one of the performers)...anyway, our set was:

it was really fucking cool playing at the Hi-Tone...and especially cool seeing as how we did so well...hopefully we'll get to play there again...Amanda sort of knows this guy from the Antique Curtains (a really bad local band, but the guy's nice...) he told her he really likes us as was maybe going to book a show at the Deli and thought we might be able to play too...that'd be fucking awesome...we'll see if that transpires...anyway, the rest of the show wasn't so good...Leatherbag was this one dude playing guitar and being all folky...a little Dylan-esque...uh, not TERRIBLE, but uh still pretty boring...i'd say the best of the lot...(not counting US, of course...) next was Brad P. (his damned name's too complicated to spell and i don't care enough to look it up) and while his solo set was a billion times better than Snowglobe, it was still pretty damned crappy...instead of an entire band trying to sound like something off Elephant 6 with piano and a horn section and shit...it was just a dude with an accoustic guitar trying to sound like a dude with an accoustic guitar off Elephant 6...with another guy playing trumpet in the background...so in otherwords a move from bombastic stompin' Beatles crap to subdued folky Beatles crap...then was Michael Nance...he seems like a nice guy but his stuff was by far the worse...i mean, a guy from Pittsburgh trying to play appalachian mountain music...fake accent and everything...even if it were geniune it'd be boring and not good, so being fake just makes it all the worse...but anyway, all that aside, i'm super-happy with the way the show went...my only complaint was the lack of people to hear it...but i guess that's to be expected from a wednesday and all...
as all the cool people also know, wednesday was my birthday...when Jason and Amanda got to the show they gave me their presents: 23 Skidoo: The Culling Is Coming cd and two books by Haruki Murakami: A Wild Sheep Chase and Dance Dance Dance...after the show there was a bunch of sittin' around at my apartment...chillin' and shit...oh, i forgot another anecdote about the show, well before the show...Josh was running late and we couldn't get in touch with him...i think Jacques almost had a heart attack...we were supposed to be there at 8, so we started loading Jacques' car and almost 10 'til Jacques and Brad went to just go up there so we could pretend like we're not late and stuff...luckily just as they're pulling out my driveway Josh arrived...so everything was cool...
yesterday i took off work 'cuz it was both my birthday and a big show so i was like yeah...so i slept a bit...Amanda, Jacques, and i went and ate at Spicky D's (mexican place in the same building as Cuban D's formerly Indian D's formerly Captain D's so long ago...) it was really fucking good...it always gets good restaurants in that building (well, not counting Captain D's) but they don't ever last...i think it must be some sea chantey or curse or something put on it by pirate wizards...back in the days of yore...maybe this mexican place will last...it rules...i ate too much but not too badly, i didn't TOTALLY fill up on chips before my real food came...but uh, i got some mail yesterday...my new Boss line selector...so now i'll have the ability to do lots of cool things with my pedal rig...lots of cool, complicated things...hoorah...anyway, then later on we were hanging out at Jason and Amanda's and Jacques and Amber were there to give me and Jason our birthday gifts (his is two days before mine)...and i got from them this Simpsons memory game...it rules but it pisses me off 'cuz i'm terrible and remembering so i don't do well...a book: A History of Mathematics and then the absolute nerdiest thing ever!!! 5 discs of music versions from The Legend of Zelda (mostly Ocarina of Time, the one that's a 2 disc set is from Majora's Mask, though it's hard to tell exactly what it comprises of as the only english anywhere to be found on it is simply "The Legend of Zelda"...i can only even tell it's from Majora's Mask because of the artwork...) but they are: Hyrule Symphony, Original Sound Track, Re-Arranged Album, and the 2 disc one from Majora's Mask...the "Re-Arranged Album" one sort of scares me...i imagine that's engrish for remix, at the very least it should be funny...listening to this does make me want to play the game again...i haven't touched it in at least a month...i don't know why...i guess i haven't been gaming much or something...i don't know what kind of a dork i am!
anyway...then i was back at work today...it was cool 'cuz after having a free day off it was like a monday and a friday all together...crazy...but something funny happened...i was (still am) wearing my King Diamond (Mercyful Fate) shirt, which is great 'cuz the front's just a big picture of King Diamond's face...anyway, this new guy (i think he's new i don't really recognize him) said "King Diamond is awesome!!!" and threw me the goat...he was actually on a call at the time so i was able to not say anything back to him...i guess it makes it easier, not having to tell him that i don't seriously LIKE King Diamond, i only wear the shirt 'cuz i like to laugh at King Diamond...and the guy had a beard ,tattoos, and a goat-wielding arm...and was serious...so i guess it's good i didn't have to hurt his feelings...uh, then i got home and had some cds in the mail: The Homosexuals: Astral Glamour and Throbbing Gristle: The First Annual Report...rock on, ya'll!!!
