ateolf: (the goat...BITCH!)
Mary Beth and I went to Memphis Symphony Orchestra in the afternoon. The program was billed as The Three B's: Bach, Brahms, and Beethoven. There was a little bit of drama when we realized that the Bach piece was by C.P.E. Bach, not J.S. Bach. But it ended up being quite good. First it was the Brahms: "Variations on a Theme of Haydn". We learned from the talk and all that what Brahms thought was a work by Haydn was a bootleg and not Haydn at all (publishers back then would take works by unknown composers and slap on more famous composers' names so they would sell, and after some time it was realized that this was the case for this piece). It was really good though. Then it was C.P.E. Bach's "Flute Concerto in G Major" and that was really good even if it was A Bach and not THE Bach (hah, won't be judgy about him). Apparently there was some drama/confusion behind the scenes with it supposing to have been J.S. Bach intended for the program, according to the talk. And it finished with Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 "Pastoral". I don't think I'd really ever heard the whole thing through before, just the very famous beginning of the first movement. I think I like it more now with the whole context. Anyway, it was a good concert. It felt a little weird though because it was a little light on attendance. Then for the q&a afterwards, the conductor (the sub/"understudy" who I may have just realized his name Kyle Dickson is almost the same as the guy from Survive(/Stranger Things score) Kyle Dixon) forgot to mention staying afterwards for the q&a and we were a little confused at first, expecting it out of habit but they didn't say anything. But we noticed them bringing out the chairs for it so we made sure to stay. But almost no one else did. There was literally only a handful of people there. Two people kinda asked some questions. And then it was going to be awkward so I thought of one and actually asked it. (Shantanique Moore, the flute soloist for the Bach piece had mentioned in the before talk that Beethoven is her favorite composer so I asked what her favorite pieces by him and they all (conductor and cellist up there too) chimed in as well. I'm not the type to just about ever ask questions so it was something for me!) Afterwards we went to Target. One thing I picked up was another usb cable for my phone. I'd been having issues with one of my cables barely working (foreshadowing here) and intermittently not charging it, but one was. Anyway, this replacement was also working fine at first when we got home (as was the original). But then right as I was going to bed, suddenly no charger was charging my phone AT ALL! No response of any sort when plugged in. Tried cleaning it out but still having the same trouble this morning. So, yeah. This is pretty fucked up and bad timing.
