Books to Curry
Nov. 5th, 2023 09:30 amYesterday I went and printed some flyers for the December show and went and put 'em around at the few places I know of to put such things nowadays. Then I went to the library bookstore. After being there last week, there were a couple Nabokov books that I didn't pick up because I generally avoid hardcovers, but I kind of like those older editions and they kind of haunted me that I didn't get 'em so I went back for 'em and picked up a few other things as well. They'd had their one-dollar racks out (which they put up during the big friends of the library sale) so I got some dollar books among other things: Floating in my Mother's Palm by Ursula Hegi, Ellen Foster by Kaye Gibbons (oof! got another book that I already have and didn't realize it, at least it was just a dollar, I guess I'll find someone for it now), The Three-Inch Golden Lotus by Feng Jicai, Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift (I do already have a Gulliver's Travels and Other Writings but I tried to read it once long ago and it's old and a bit mildewed smelling and I knew I couldn't read it, so here's something I could hopefully actually read one day), Under the Hill by Aubrey Beardsley and John Glassco, Glory by Vladimir Nabokov, King, Queen, Knave by Vladimir Nabokov, Manhattan Transfer by John Dos Passos, Wit by Margaret Edson, Up from Slavery by Booker T. Washington, Japanese by Spring by Ishmael Reed, The Edible Woman by Margaret Atwood, Lady Oracle by Margaret Atwood, and The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin. Then Mary Beth and I went and did a big get-it-out-of-the-way Kroger haul for lots of the few things we can't get at Superlo now. Kroger was annoying but we got stuff and hopefully won't have to go back again for a long time. Oh, first we went to the Mediterranean Grocery for some things. While we were there we noticed they have an Indian restaurant inside the place now. After doing our Kroger run and dropping the groceries off, we went back and picked up some goat biryani and some goat curry (and samosas) and took it back home to eat while watching some Simpsons. It was good! They didn't give us a choice of heat level so it was pretty spicy. I probably spoke too soon about my shoulder/neck feeling better. I'll probably have to take some next steps next week. Fun.
