Show Number One
Nov. 21st, 2022 08:11 amYesterday Mary Beth and I went and had lunch at Pho Saigon and it was nice and warm and delicious. That was the big event for the earlier-in-the-day and then at night there was a show (the first of three Memphis Concrète shows this week!). It was up at the Lamplighter and it went very well, I thought. First up was Ben Cornelius, he was doing somewhat dancey laptop stuff. Next it was Artificer and their set was just phenomenal as always, some pretty unique textures (and back to being just a very high-drone set). Then it was Pop Saw and they were good, out-there jazz with saxophone and guitar. And finally Dog Chakra had their first live in-person show. This was more pulsating and industrial than the virtual show, no drums so less jazzy, but it was really good. Lots of wall of electronics sounds. Anyway, lots of fun and great music all around. There was even a decent crowd for an MC show and I was even able to pay a little bit from the door to the local artists! And Pop Saw is playing again tonight at the Hi Tone for our second show of the week. Looking forward to it, but gotta work first now.
