the blues is number one
Jun. 15th, 2001 01:16 pmyesterday kicked some major fucking arse...after class i swung by The Apartment...Jacques was gonna jump in the bath and get ready...so i went over to Sir Brad's...we left shortly thereafter going first to the Memphis Drum Shop so he could get some sticks and second to Lastchance 'cuz he finally had the money to get some stuff he had been meaning to get...i got Threadwaxing Space Live the Presidential Compilation '93-'94...a Zero Hour comp that has Blonde Redhead and Gate (including Lee Ranaldo and Zeena Parkins) on it...then we picked Jacques up, called Keith and gave him directions to my house, and were off to my house ourselves...and the first full-on four member Family Ghost practice ensued...it was fucking great...we did the song that we came up w/ last week and Keith came up w/ another guitar part for it...it went quite well...then after that we started putting stuff together for this guitar part i wrote on the Silvertone...it fucking rules beyond anything else ever...Keith played bass, Jacques played drums, and Brad played Moog...it fucking RULES! it's very Sonic Youth-y...but that's okay...we recorded it on a little cassette recorder and played for like 30 minutes...it was great, we'd start winding down we'd all think we were about done and then click click click click...it was great...everything's coming together wonderfully...it's like, finally, a real band...and it's like all just us cool dudes...or something...
but anyway...we had like a band eating stuff at the Huey's out near my house...then we stopped at the Cat's in Germantown to attack their used bin...i ended up getting Uzeda: 4 for $3...then to Brad's...we sat around a little while, but Jacques' being whipped by a girlfriend he barely likes came into play so he had to go back home...we had called Justin and he came over...then we (The Family Ghost + Justin) went over to The Apartment...gotta watch Jacques go from good mood to grrri'mstayingin...she wouldn't leave his room but apparently they had a fight (maybe not quite a fight...but a sucky conversation at least...) because he didn't call even though he did...blah...relationships are stupid...especially stupid ones...
then we went to Justin's apartment...sat around a while...watched some teevee...this Tortise video (i think it's the newest one) came on M2 and it was the coolest video ever...there was also this video by Echoboy and it ruled as well...the singer guy had this guitar that's all fucked up shaped and looks like the one Colin Newman has in the liner notes for Turns and Strokes...i think it was a Danelectro too...but not sure...beer was wanted so i took Brad to Kroger...while there i started getting lyrics for the new song in my head...and while waiting in line i ran out to my car, grabbed something to write w/ and something to write on, and came back in and started writing 'em down...then back to Justin's...after a little while he made us leave...i took Brad home and Keith back to my house 'cuz that's where his car was...i borrowed him Wire's first three albums 'cuz he had heard some songs but like not the whole albums and stuff...i also played him some Electric Eels...one of the three greatest underapreciated/unknown bands ever (along w/ Disco Inferno and Y Pants...) then i couldn't go to sleep for a while...finally i did...and kept setting my alarm back and going back to sleep when my alarm went off...i ended up missing class again like a fucking idiot...
