yesterday i took apart my tape machine again...i did some troubleshooting...as i was sure the problem is either in the individual track cards or the tape head (suspecting the head the most...) so i switched the cards on the troubled tracks with some of the ones that work just fine...so then i tried it out and it did just the same exact thing regardless of which card was where...the first tracks messed up and the later tracks were fine...so now i know for definitely sure that the problem's in the tape head...well, 99% positive i mean there could be some other factor that i don't know nothing about but also from stuff i've read and just the way the problem developed the tape head makes a lot of sense...so now i know what it is...will i be able to fix it? that's the question...in some more positive related news i won another tape machine on ebay...not a replacement, a different machine for a different purpose...an Otari 2-track for mixing down...it was kind of crazy 'cuz i'd been looking at 2-tracks on ebay but i don't think i had seen or noticed the one i ended up getting...at one point i was talking to Jacques on the phone yesterday about my plan to get a 2-track and Jacques suggested having heard good things about the Otari MX-5050...then i get home and was like well, i'll just search for "otari" on ebay and see what turns up...then there's the same very model Jacques recommended and it was ending in somewhere between 10 to 15 minutes and it was only like $50-something...so i bid, was the high bidder...shortly later the price went up but i still wasn't outbid...i decided to increase my high bid to be safe...then at the very very last second another bid was placing...and it ended like $4 more than my original high bid...so it was like this whole big stream of lucky uh, things...so hopefully i'll get it and then my other machine will be working right and we can mix down this album properly!!! so then later last night was Josh's birthday party...i took Jacques and Amber up they 'cuz they hate driving their rental car 'cuz it sucks or something and we hung out at Josh's and all...there was some badass dip (of the variety you stick chips in...) i guess that's all i've got to say...yeah...
