Tree Crash

Yesterday afternoon/early evening Mary Beth and I were watching more bonus features from The Velvet Underground when we heard this giant crash. It sounded kind of like a car crash but louder and more drawn out. Maybe we could also subconsciously feel a little bit of the earth vibrating? I don't know but there was definitely something that felt surreal about it. I looked up and could see some movement through the closed venetian blinds, so didn't see anything clearly but it seemed like I was seeing a tree fall. So I went to the window to open and check and yes, a tree had fallen right across the street next to the intersection right by us. It was from the house across the street on the corner. It was very luck that no cars were there, 'cuz it fell right where you stop at the light if you're going to go north on East Parkway and there are cars stopped there quite a lot of the time (I mean, living right there, I'm stopped there at that light a fair amount of the time). It fell right on our street at the edge of the busier East Parkway and was polite enough not to go over onto that street, but it blocked off all the lanes on our street except the far lane closest to our side. (It's still out there, I'm sure it's a lot of work to remove a big tree like that. It's not quite as big as the one that completely blocked off our street on the other side back in 2017, but it's still pretty damn big.) And it happened just in the middle (or towards the end) of the afternoon on a bright, clear day. The night before there was a storm and strong winds; I'm sure it was damaged from that; but it waited a whole day to come down much more unexpectedly. Again, really thankful no one was hurt. A bunch of cars were trying to turn on our street, going the wrong way onto the one open lane (with low visibility because of the, you know, giant fucking tree). As of a little later in the evening, they had put up a little emergency thing (oh what do you call those? not a traffic cone, but like a foldout sandwich board kind of thing that pretty much serves the same purpose). It looked a little comical being so small and right next to the giant fucking tree in the road.

I did start to work a little bit on my patch for that show that's coming up in one week! Haven't hooked it up with any sound yet, and just starting to lay the groundwork. Will need to work on it a bit more. Also started to feel like I'm probably about to get sick last night. Mary Beth's been sick since right after that show on Monday. I think it's just hitting me now that she's getting over it some and shedding it off. I'm not all out sick yet, but my throat started to feel funny last night. And it's still feeling funny, like kind of on the edge of sore but not quite. And my left ear feels blocked up. We'll see. I obviously don't want to get sick!
