ateolf: (the goat...BITCH!)
Had a real good time last night. Pretty awesome show. There was a pretty good turnout especially considering we weren't able to promote it at all aside from word of mouth given then venue's current standing as a venue and it being cast as a "private event." But all the performances were really great and the atmosphere was pleasant. Bruiser was first (his second show ever). He was fantastic. He started off with a kinda Twin Peaks ominous drone that eventually morphed into Eno-like peaceful chords. I was after that. We'd hooked up my looper pedal to get a transition loop between sets. I was really going for an Eliane Radigue thing. I was doing one single note (across a bunch of oscillators and their different waveforms) with constantly, as-slowly-as-possible shifting textures. I thought I did pretty well. Zach told me a couple of different comments on my set he heard. One friend said it made her uncomfortable. Not sure if that's exactly what I was going for, more just kind of a pseudo-stasis, but I guess long durations of notes that don't change can make people uncomfortable. Our coworker John told Zach that his set lulled him into wanting to go to sleep, while my set made him never want to sleep again. Next was Jack the Giant Killer. His set was very good as always. Aster was last. I was a little surprised as he sounded a good bit different from the last time I saw him. Kinda like bursts of samples through delay. It was really awesome. It was just a good night all around. I mean, we all did what could be considered ambient music, but each approach by each artist was very different so it was pretty cool to see so many different faces within the same genre brought out. Hung out and chatted with a lot of friends and it was a pretty good time. Mary Beth came with me and I was happy 'cuz she seemed to have the first social interaction in a long time that didn't make her feel bad. Got to sleep late and woke up late to Trudy being very angry that we hadn't woken up and fed her already (she clawed Mary Beth's face even! and she's always been the patient one, whereas Horace would try to wake us up, she usually just waits for us to wake up on our own before she starts bothering us).
