Yesterday I finished reading Secret beneath the Sand by David Alan Crouch (my coworker). As he said, it's like a sci-fi Hardy Boys. A lot of the writing was clunky, but it was fun to get to read something he wrote. The crazy part is that near the end a character comes up named Feng (we also work with a guy named Feng, and not a common name, as you can see). Well, this character ends up being the fucking bad guy and gets killed and all this stuff so I'm all like "woah!" I brought it up with him today and he got all hush-hush, saying he didn't want Feng to know. He wrote it in 2008 and he'd only been at ServiceMaster for a year so it was before he knew Feng and he didn't think to change it. So I found that pretty damn funny. [Oh, and I wanted to record the following detail for myself: how all the characters end up laughing all the time and how rare it is that anyone says anything funny. I guess it's showing camaraderie between the characters, but seriously like every scene ends with them laughing, sometimes multiple times on a page. That's all. Not an attack, I just wanted to remember that detail.] Yesterday afternoon Mary Beth and I went up to Crosstown to see this performance art exhibition. Mostly I thought it was pretty good. There were things I liked a lot. I liked the discomforting aspect when he was choking on rose petals. He offset that by ending with a dance party (Mary Beth liked that, and while I guess I didn't hate it, I didn't love it ending with the dance party). Um. That's about it for now.
