base

went to guitar center with Dustin yesterday and played through an amp that bass i fell in love with last time i was there: a Gretsch short scale...it was cheap and small and beautiful...all great qualities but when i played it through an amp i noticed that the low string sounds flat...all the other strings sound normal and then that one just is weak an kinda thin...i could deal with a consistently bad sound more than inconsistency...ah well...a dream deferred or something...today i was still in trs but only for a few hours, not quite half my shift...i was pissed when i started getting ip calls...at least last friday was the perfect perfect day for trs...

have you ever tried a mustang or musicmaster bass? might be your thing also...

one reason i was drawn to the Gretsch was the $250 price tag...which i can't see myself paying more than that for a bass...so that seems like the Mustang'll be out of the question...never heard of the Musicmaster but looked it up and it seems like if i could find one that would be affordable...however, the Gretsch fit the complaints i'd read concerning the short scale bass...i don't know if either of those avoids this pitfall...i've wondered if the Gretsch would sound right if i replaced the low string with a thicker gauge...of course, i'm not spending a couple hundred bucks to find out...

well you could definitely bring it back to guitar center if you couldn't get the tone sorted out.

i had the same problem when the stings on my bass were old as hell... i guess the higher gauge of the low e makes it more noticable.

yeah, though hearing and playing it and all yesterday sorta took some of the steam out of my wanting it...and i shouldn't be spending the money anyway...so now i have an excuse not to...aye...i may try it later...but i don't feel like going through the trouble/expense right now anyhow...
