back

okay, let's see if i can remember everything...Rochester was fun...i already mentioned the massive amounts of book-buying...also, a dream i've had for 15 years was finally fulfilled: we went to wegmans and they actually had feijoa! an awesome fruit i hadn't had since i was in New Zealand...it seemed a little past its prime, but it was still good...hopefully i can find some again before i die...now hopefully one day i'll be able to get that L&P soda (if they still make it...) also, i had a garbage plate...mmm...garbage...

um...the return flight back was as lame as the flight up was nice...every flight was behind, which isn't that big a deal, but when we got to Memphis Mary Beth was missing a suitcase...so there was a buch of suckiness waiting and it not showing up...then she talked to someone, etc...we went home and were called a couple hours later when the next flight arrived and her luggage was on that so at least it had a happy resolution...but it wasn't looking so good for a while...

christmas was staggered somewhat...the night we were back Mary Beth gave me an early present: a Buddha Machine! it is swell...then the next night (thursday, we got back wednesday) she gave me an awesome book: An Album of Fluid Motion...it is as the title describes...pictures of fluid mechanics stuff, i think i already said it's awesome...oh yeah, waiting for me in the mail was what i guess could be considered a present to myself?: Sonic Youth: The Destroyed Room...anyway, Mary Beth and i did our official christmas exchange thingie friday night, i got (in addition to my early presents): The Herbert Huncke Reader, Bad Behavior by Mary Gaitskill, and Hood: Cabled Linear Traction...it was a sweet haul for me, indeed!

there was some more random purchases from me...on thurday i went to lastchance and got myself a couple cds: Roland Kirk: Kirk in Copenhagen and John Zorn: The Classic Guide to Strategy Volume Three: the John Zorn 50th Birthday Celebration Vol. 9...at target i picked up The Simpsons: the Complete Ninth Season...friday, i continued in a quest to find a small extra-present that i'd thought would be easy to find but over two days couldn't find and ended up in some sucky places...culminating in accidentally going into the wolfchase area looking for a store that i didn't find anyway and finally giving up...note, this is the friday before christmas...this mall area of suburbia was a fucking solid sheet of cars for uh...a long while...the big parking area was just as bad as the streets, i found a random spot, parked, and walked a bit to barnes & noble...it was there and fuck if i was gonna drive around even if i could...i replaced the present with a random book and got a book for myself: Cosmicomics by Italo Calvino...

saturday Mary Beth and i went to my parents' and we rode down to my relatives in arkansas for the general family christmas thing...yesterday we went to my parents' for my immediate family christmas thingie...i mostly got parent-stuff from my parents...my sister got me Lisey's Story by Stephen King (and even though it's not very likely i'll ever get around to reading it, it'll look nice on my shelf with all my other Stephen King...maybe one day, for old time's sake...who knows?)

today was my return to work after several weeks...i must say it was the perfect day to come back...it was very slow and nice...i read a lot (something i hadn't done while on vacation...read a lot, i'd maybe read a workday's worth of pages while away...) so on top of making sweet holiday pay i did very little work and read a bunch...i foresee tomorrow sucking, unfortunately...but uh, that's stuff for ya...

i'd mentioned the internet being down yesterday and then it being back up again...well when we came back from my parents' it was back to not working...but it just got fixed again...stupid internet...

actually, Mary Beth's dad kept saying we should go there...it's like the first business you see after you make it out of their residential area and we drove by it a bunch...she said it's good to go to laugh at...lots of cock guitars...i kinda wanated to see it but we never got around to it...

the used bookstores there were really good...eat a garbage plate...it seemed like there were a few other things that we didn't get around to doing...
