a life without internet (or happy V-D)

let's see if i can remember anything remotely worth remembering...let the internet run out (which happened two tuesdays ago) new roommate started new account...waited a week to get installed...was supposed to have been installed last monday but they didn't call first and he missed them then the twats of time warner came back thursday and internet was happening...however, it's not happening in my room...i guess there's some different signal or some crap and the modem i've got won't pick it up...so there's internet here in Dustin's room on his computer but not mine...oh well...hopefully this problem should be remedied soon...until then...

that first week i remember i finished reading A Wild Sheep Chase by Haruki Murakami...

i also got some crap...one day in the mail:
The Brak Show: Volume One
Fela Kuti: Confusion/Gentleman
there was a trip to the video game store:
Castlevania for the GBA
to the bookstore:
Nausea by Jean-Paul Sartre
Journey to the End of the Night by Louis-Ferdinand Céline
to that overpriced all-in-one Borders:
Lee 'Scratch' Perry Vs. King Tubby in Dub: 7X7
Improve Your Spanish (a book and 2 cds...i'm hoping to pick it back up...hope hope hope...)
The Shifting Realities of Philip K. Dick: Selected Literary and Philosophical Writings

that thursday Jacques and i got together to try to fix our guitar parts on "Phantom Limb"...it was not a success...due to the fact that the recorded is now messed up on the tracks we were trying to record on...tracks 1 and 3 have started doing what track 2 has always done...

on sunday we were supposed to continue recording as a band...but Brad skipped out to go to a superbowl party...classy...especially as he didn't tell us at all...but the remaining three of us managed to be productive...we worked out and improved upon our arrangement of "The Great War" so we'll be ready to record it when the time comes (which should now be this coming weekend...the last song we have left...not counting a few patch-ups, additions...)

what else last week? work was, for a while super-super-super-super fucking busy...some fairly good news from the end of last week...we now have a certain procedure to stop SOME of the nigerian scam calls...far from ideal but hopefully it's a step...that and more new hires has made it not INSANELY busy now...i think today it was actually queueing less than it wasn't...(an improvement since there were a few days when it literally did not stop queueing the whole 10 fucking hours i was there...) anything else last week? not that i can think of really...

friday was Jacques' birthday happening...we ate sakisui it was scrumptious...there was a good lot of people there...then we hung out at Jacques' apartment...Amber got a cake made with a picture of King Diamond!!! it was fucking sweet...(nice wordplay, eh? i'm a literary genius...) i think there was more hanging out saturday...nothing fancy though...though i did eat King Diamond's face...oh yeah, and Jason gave me:
Aguirre the Wrath of God dvd
he got this extra copy for free...fuckin' awesome, that...

yesterday The Family Ghost got together again...actually Jacques came over early, we fixed up our guitars on "Phantom Limb" (finally)...except for my chording the last half...then the whole band showed up and we recorded "Homage"...not only is it our first song to have gotten the basic track down in one day (we've tended to have one day setting up and then attempting with either bad playing or something screwy with the recording process) but we actually got the basic track down on the FIRST TAKE...we still need to redo a couple things (the bass and most likely my guitar...hopefully and most likely Josh's guitar will stay...the funny thing is his guitar recorded on the mic that was supposed to be for my guitar...you can hear my guitar but not very well at all...it's mostly a textural part anyway, but still it's a bit just too low...) but regardless, a record feat for The Family Ghost...i guess this makes up for last week's aborted recording session...after Brad and Jacques left Josh stayed and we recorded my chorded part on the last half of "Phantom Limb" so all of that was taken care of...now we only have one more song left to record (all of, at least)...i can't believe we're so close to finished! it's amazing...

and to finish up with one bit of news: The Family Ghost has a show friday March 18th at Murphy's!!!

I would really like to hear a sample or two if possible. I know you and I have similar taste in a lot of music, so I look forward to hearing what you've come up with.

once we get the last song recorded we'll be starting on the arduous task of mixing-down...if all goes well all 9 rockin' songs that will be The Family Ghost's first album should be ready for ears and the press by the end of next month...
