no purpose

almost overslept for the luncheon this morning...i don't really remember my alarm going off...but i happened to snap awake 20 min before i had to leave so i had just enough time...the luncheon itself wasn't too terrible...i was able to speak very little...most of the other students did most of the talking, as i had hoped...i now have this sheet w/ basically the kinds of questions asked at the luncheon thing to fill out...it's just a few questions...and nothing like long essay questions or anything...i guess i can throw some crap down on it...afterwards i went home and took a nap...woke up and grocery shopped...watched The Simpsons...then i went and met Brad at his place...he decided we should go to Turtle's...and even though i have no income, i couldn't help but spend some money on my one true love, cds:
Royal Trux: Hand of Glory
Ui: Sidelong
Tram: Frequently Asked Questions
v/a: Succour (The Terrascope Benefit Album) [two discs]
Bauhaus: Live in the Studio 1979
in my defense, they were all from the blowout bin and were very cheap...except for the Bauhaus one...it's actually this giant book called Beneath the Mask that the cd comes inside...its price was a little more than all the others together...(not that that was terribly high...) but there was a happy story as when i bought it, it ended up being $7 less than the sticker said...then we went to Bookstar, but i managed to not buy anything...hell...readin's for dern pussies! then we went back to ze apartment...uh, we basically just sat around for a while...Keith and Kerry arrived...more sitting around...Brad left...more sitting around...i left...
p.s.
the lovely folks from Sonic Youth emailed me: SONIC YOUTH SPRING/SUMMER DATES: 6/13 Manchester TN - Bonnaroo Festival, 6/17 St. Louis MO - The Pageant...those are the two i wanna go to at any rate...hopefully there are others who may (or at least partially) feel the same way...

the bauhaus book and cd is a good thing. you made the right decision, or something...

Bonnaroo

Bonnaroo is a hellish festival, bigger than Memphis in May and Lollapalooza and Ozzfest put together. Plus, you have to pay like $150 just to get in on one day, and then you have to wade through hippie sludge.

that sounds pretty damned sucky...but it is Sonic Youth.........

So you'd trudge through the hippie filth and pay all that money just to see the worst band ever?

hey! what's on that terrascope benefit album? have you ever been to a terrastock before? i'd love to go, but they're always so far away from me.

but, goodness. that's exciting! a terrascope thing!

here's the (long) list of all the artists: The Linus Pauling Quartet, The Green Pajamas, Palace, Porcupine Tree, The Powder Monkeys, Peter Buck & Scott McCaughey, Current 93, Charalambrides, The Bevis Frond, Kable, Spirit, Flying Saucer Attack, Clockbrains, The Marilyn Decade, Motorspycho, Captain Sensible, Nurse with Wound, Sundial, The Olivia Tremor Control, The Flyte Reaction, Dunlavy, Robyn Hitchcock, Bardo Pond, Mooseheart Faith, The Heads, Cul de Sac, The Lucky Bishops, Endino's Earthworm, Etherial Counterbalance, Medicine Ball, Strapping Fieldhands, Ghost, Coil, and Magic Hour

...whew! not bad for 2 discs of that at $6...and no, i've never been...i think a year or two ago my friend and i sort-of talked about going to it...but it never happened...we have made it to Noise Pop (Chicago) and ATP (LA)...i wanna go to ATP this year...it kind've seemed doubtful and now that i don't have a job anymore it's a lot more doubtful...

[identity profile] parsleypaisley.livejournal.com 2003-03-23 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
wow! that CD sounds shit hot! and for $6! you can't beat that! (my favorites on that CD are palace, current 93, charalambides, bevis frond, flying saucer attack, nurse with wound, sundial, olivia tremor control, bardo pond, mooseheart faith, strapping fieldhands and ghost! how cool to have 'em all on a fun mix!)

all tomorrow's parties would be cool too, but if i had a choice, i think i would definitely go w/ terrastock. i was invited out to boston last time for it by some folks who were playing there, but then i got a job and couldn't make it. (that's the bad thing about working- when you do have a job, you never have the time, and when you don't have a job you never have the money!)

my favorites are Flying Saucer Attack, Bardo Pond, Cul de Sac, and Coil...though there are lots i've never heard...don't really care for Olivia Tremor Control though...some of their stuff's good...i had one of their albums once and it was like an hour of "Penny Lane" w/ a few noise bits thrown in every few tracks...

this year's ATP has The Fall and The Magic Band...[drool] i mean, jesus christ! when the fuck else am i gonna get a chance to see The Magic Band!?!?!? a cool thing about the job i had was that it wasn't a "real" job or anything so if i asked for a week off in advance i could get it...too bad the owner is fucking insane...(something i knew from the beginning...oh well...)

[identity profile] parsleypaisley.livejournal.com 2003-03-24 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, i'm not huge olivia fan. i had one of their albums (dusk at cubist castle) which was sort of a cool concept album thing, i guess, i liked it okay, but i ended up selling it for drug money or something...

holy shit! the fall AND the magic band?! damn! i'm surprised they're letting m.e.s. back into the states- didn't he beat up the whole band last time? hee.

the captain is currently a recluse in this small seaside town called trinidad, only 10 miles north of where i am. his wife often comes into a bookstore where my friend works and picks up special orders for him (like the wire magazine.) pretty nuts. i guess he's a total hermit now.

[identity profile] ateolf.livejournal.com 2003-03-24 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
yup...he's still completely retired from music...it's just the original Magic Band that's gotten back together w/out him...which should still be a ruling site to see...
