my days are getting longer...

i was informed by David that Erase Errata played the Hi-Tone last night via AIM...a little after the show would have been over...why didn't i know about it!? i didn't even know they were playing in town at all...i haven't heard them yet but i hear they're supposed to be beyond great, or something...they played ATP, but they were one of the many bands i didn't get to see...i will be seeing 'em at least once in a few weeks, but i'd really like to see them in their own show, not w/ a limited opening slot, as well as the whole seeing 'em in my own town factor......(i'll be seeing Mary Timony and Tim Prudhome as well...Mary is playing every SY date i'll be seeing...that should be cool...hopefully her new stuff is good...) i got up relatively early and went to the school to see my advisor...but his hours that i thought were mon/wed are just wed...so i just went and saw the math guy...didn't really do anything but set up and appointment for wednesday...and i'll be seeing my advisor durring his hours "tomorrow"...(i.e. today when i wake up from not quite sleeping long enough...) after that i went and took Paul to get some stuff taken care of at the driver's license place...at some point we went to Wal-Mart and i bought some blank cdrs so i can make a ton of mix cds for my week ON THE ROAD! then i went to work...it was pretty rad...it was like, the perfect closing night...the whole time Dan and i worked, there were no rush drivers...just the two of us closers...it was pretty busy at first...around 11-11:30 it started slowing down so we were able to get started on closing work...it picked up a little 12:30-1am-ish as well...not as much as earlier...all in all it was a good night...i walked away between 3 and 3:30...i made $150 as well! pretty badass...after that i hung out w/ Paul a little again...we had MAN-naise added to our krystals...

once again, Kerry posted another boweling night related stuff...this time it's pictures...i happen to be in the three of them...truly a manumental event...

also, i forgot to mention in my last post about seeing something totally radical at Justin's last night...he was flipping through the channels and i asked him to stay on MTV for 120 Minutes...we caught the tail end of some really crappy video/song and right after that i found myself w/ jaw down and boner up seeing My Bloody Valentine's video for "Only Shallow"...the actual video wasn't too spectacular but dear god does that song rule...i think they had Thurston Moore sitting in for Colm O'Closoig (the drummer) while they filmed it...

only shallow

erase eratta are good- sort of like grown up riot girls, educated in their no wave, and with an extreme gang of four + slits + xray spex influence.

either that, or they're completely ripping off the dog faced hermans. which isn't bad, necessarily.

...Dog Faced Hermans...i'll guess that they're good too...

Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you...

Erase Errata are playing at the Hi Tone Sunday night with the Lost Sounds. We ought to check it out.

jesus christ. i get four different mtvs and four different vh1s and i've never seen anything that remotely cool.

you're prob'ly watching the wrong ones at the wrong time...of course, having 4 MTVs means you can only count at most 3...as the regular MTV is completely worthless in every aspect...hrm...i think i saw that video on MTV2...i can't remember which one 120 Min was on...it seems like MTV wouldn't actually be playing real videos, but it was the middle of the night so mayyybe...but i still think it's been relegated to MTV2...anyway i'm just pointlessly blathering on...

whenever i tune in to mtv2 it's always the same tripe they play on the standard mtv... you know, addidas rock, weezer, the dashboard confessional pansy ass motherfucker. vh1 classic seems to play nothing but mantastic butt rock except for the occasional talking heads video. i'm pointlessly blathering as well, but i'm blaming it on alcohol at least.

you're talking like they actually play videos on MTV...and yes, MTV2 does normally play crap...but i guess 120 Min is trying to reclaim some of its lost cred or something...it still mostly plays crap...just non-mainstream crap...though that MBV was a nice change of pace...

strangely, 120 minutes on normal mtv is where i saw that video (granted, this was almost 10 years ago, prob'ly)...

[identity profile] ateolf.livejournal.com 2002-07-17 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
yea, back before MTV2 even existed...duh! and it was 10 years ago, maybe that's why you think the video was so cool...i mean, it's cool to actually see a MBV video, but i thought the actual video was a little cheesy...well, not terribly, but it did have that video toaster feel...

[identity profile] newness-ends.livejournal.com 2002-07-17 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
i could be thinking of another mbv video then. the one i'm thinking of was basically them just standing in this room playing...

[identity profile] ateolf.livejournal.com 2002-07-17 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
it is...but there's this line stuff happening on the screen (kind've like the guitar pictures on the inside of the liner notes of Loveless...it might be taken from the same picture(s)...) to make it look all washy or something...but it just kind've looks video toastered...and the video quality's kind've poor...making it look like it was filmed on the set of a public access show or something...and the closeups on Blinda while she's singing are kind've lame...i think it was her makeup or something...(too much lipstick?) but yea...it's not that it's a bad video...just not really a good video...i guess it was just there...the drummer was doing all these funny, overemphatic moves though...and i think i may have mentioned that he looks JUST LIKE Thurston Moore...at least while his hair's covering his face...not that his hair wasn't through the entire video...

well, suffice it to say, it rocked my socks off at an impressionable age.

once again, i'll say the video rules on the sole merit of the song ruling so much...
