the big update

i'll try to hit all the "key" moments of the past week...i got the new Mission of Burma: On Off On and Jason picked up an advance promo copy of the new David Sedaris book Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim...it's missing one chapter but it was free...saturday morning i finished reading Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison...in the mail i got my new "game" system: a Philips CD-I...the reason i got it is because it's the only non-Nintendo system to have gotten the rights to Zelda (as well as Mario) games...so they made 3 Zelda games of their own and 1 Mario game...and they did a terrible job to boot! the whole system was just a bad idea...it's primary focus was not video games but just being masturbatory with that "brand new" "interactive" "crap" fad...it did have movies on cd sized discs before dvds, but you had to have 2 discs per movie and the image is, while watchable, very pixilated...they mostly had edutainment crap and like card games and shit like that...but they had some games...i'm sure all bad ones...when i got the system on ebay it came with a few movies and a few games...all the games i got are terrible...but it did come with Hotel Mario and 2 of the 3 Zelda games (Zelda: the Wand of Gamelon and Link: the Faces of Evil) and for Zelda collectors (i.e. people as pathetic as i am) are paying a shitload of money for these bad fake Zelda games (Philips just got the rights to the names and crap like that, nobody who had anything to do with the consistently-great-over-the-decades REAL Zelda games had anything to do with these abominations...) i got this big lot of the system and all the games and movies for cheaper than i would have gotten just those 2 Zelda games alone...i still want the third one, but it just went for $125 on ebay...and of course i don't want it NEARLY that bad...for the games i will say ONE positive thing: i like the backgrounds...they're all like impressionist or post-impressionist or something paintings/drawings and kind of look nifty...but the actual characters and enemies look pretty lame...and all the action looks lame...and especially plays lame...and the most embarassing part is the little cartoon animation sequences to further the lame plot...i cannot even begin to describe how amazingly bad these are...for one they give Link the personality of a Ninja Turtle...all in all they are worth having, entertaining in the complete opposite sense a real Zelda game would be...but i'll move on from that subject...hrm...nothing at all stands out from sunday 'til yesterday...yesterday, as you know the internet magically started working again...the guy's still supposed to come out saturday...Tim said he's gonna try to trick 'em into taking away the filter they put up way up on a telephone poll not too long before we lost the internet, so we can steal cable again...that would be okay, though all in all i don't care about cable that much...just the modem part...but anyway, The Family Ghost had our first practice in a long time...it was surprising 'cuz it was not only good, but VERY good...i mean, absolutely show-ready...which is surprising after our long time away from rocking...surprising but bitchin'! we might be setting up a show in the near future with this band called: Valhalla Rising...and yes, as the name suggests they're norse-mythology-themed black metal...so that would be REALLY REALLY REALLY funny...i hope this transpires...more later...
