It was just another bump on the road
But for a second I heard you cry
I never even saw you waiting there
Alone in the dark so far from the city
I pulled over and walked back to you---
Lying on the curb as I searched for your breath
There was no name I could whisper in your ear
So I held your broken hand in silence
Your eyes were empty, but I could feel your stare
Cold and distant enough to relate
I pushed them shut and kissed each lid
You quivered gently in the pool of blood
A face so beautiful, skin smooth and soft
It would be even softer in the morning
I didn't look back as I drove away
Does the stain on the road still remain?
