Cuddled by Peanut

Mary Beth and I picked up our Indie Memphis passes yesterday. Woo. Then at night I went up to a show at Off the Walls Arts put on by Goner. It was Bhajan Bhoy and Drop Ceiling. Unusually, Bhajan Bhoy (the touring artist) played first. His stuff was quite good. He started with about two thirds of his set being kind of this raga guitar drone thing (he had lots of pedals and I think a synth too). Then for the last third or so, Drop Ceiling came on stage and played with him as his backing band and it was more of a psych rock thing. Good set. Since Drop Ceiling had played with him, then I was thinking damn, that was a short show. And I almost left but I was hanging around outside a bit (someone pointed out that we were wearing Converse of a very similar color and I was drawn into that conversation) and overheard someone telling Peter something about getting ready or setting up or checking something in seven minutes. So I knew there'd be more. So Drop Ceiling by themselves played and they were also very good (like the one time I saw them before, also at Off the Walls). And before the show started, Eric came up and talked to me and was being nice and all that. He asked if I had any shows coming up so I brought up the one I'm working on and just started to come together and will be putting out there as soon as I make up a flyer. I mentioned how Goner had passed it along to me. He said it hadn't reached him but when he heard that it was Cellular Chaos he was all, oh I love that band, I would have done it if it'd made it to me. So kinda funny, but he seemed excited about seeing it anyway. I picked up some merch from Bhajan Bhoy, a t-shirt and two cds: To Love Is to Love (Vol. 1)/To Love Is to Love (Vol. 2) and Shanti Shanti Shanti. The show was pretty early and ran on time so I was back home early. Mary Beth hung outside on the deck for a bit. We got a visit from Peanut and after shuffling around a bit, she got on my lap. Well, I made a bold venture! While she was on my lap, I pet her back (you know the spot, right by the tail). She was into it! I remained cautious and refrained from overdoing it, but that was a big breakthrough. Never touched Peanut before without a little bit of an attack. Anyway, a very special night!
