Memphis Concrète is happening!!!

Okay, so where the hell do I begin talking about the festival so far? So far it's going very well. Things are running smoothly and every performance has been incredible. I woke up yesterday and started getting things ready. Went to Fino's to pick up sandwich trays. Headed over to Crosstown to help set things up. Yeah, things got moving. The only hiccup was even in a positive direction. GODBODYJONES started playing early (I thought he was still sound checking but he'd gone into his set) so then he finished way early and I told him he could keep playing for a bit more (so there wouldn't just be a huge empty gap). I was a bit worried about attendance for a while. I mean, I know the real early sets in the afternoon are going to be more sparse, but usually the accumulation of people is more gradual. It stayed pretty steadily low for a long while even into the night. But by the time General Labor (the headliners) came on there was a sharp increase and we finished the night with what seemed to me actually a very large turnout. So I was happy about that being a bit of a relief! I recorded it on my handheld. I also had the sound guy record straight from the board (but he missed the first few sets due to a flash drive formatting issue, I got the room sound at least). I also used my video camera for the first time and recorded everything (I think my sd card filled up before General Labor's set finished; I haven't had a chance to look in detail, but I saw it at least got some of it). I picked up a few cds from XAMBUCA before I left (I think they're mostly other people's music he put out or had some involvement with or something?): Runar Magnusson: Sub-Photic Scenario, Faust: Daumenbruch, and Lucio Capece FS5: From Scratch New Discantus Quintet. Anyway, this is a disorganized post. Hard to frame things correctly as my brain's all a blur. But yeah, back for more today!!!
