Synth or Guitar
I took my "ARP" guitar to the back deck yesterday and sanded off the worst of the flaking paint. I got it to where it pretty much just wouldn't make a big mess whenever you touch it. Josh had the Avatar fixed so I brought it over with the cable. Then, though the main synth part worked, the guitar control wasn't working. The guitar signal itself was coming through the guitar channel so the cable was definitely fixed, but the synth didn't seem to be tracking its pitch at all, just seemed to be doing some envelope following or something. We spent a good bit of time troubleshooting it and looking at things on the board too. After a while, I realized I think it was tracking the pitch, it's just that the portamento was always on (even though we had it turned down, and just moving that slider didn't do anything) and really slow so it'd slowly move to each new note such that it was hard to tell the note itself was changing and it wasn't just an envelope. Then we noticed that with external cv control, the portamento wasn't on at all and wouldn't do any note gliding no matter the setting. So, I feel it's something weird with the portamento, but we (okay, "we" = Josh, what the fuck could I even do?) didn't get it fixed. But the main thing works and I wasn't going to use the guitar at the live score, just run it with the sequencer. So it already exceeds my expectations. I mean, the guitar would be COOL, but I'm grateful for what I've got and...it powers on so yay!
